May 21, Fineko/abc.az. Creation of new "green corridors" is planned in the cities of Azerbaijan.
ABC.AZ reports that Shakhnaz Badalova, Deputy Head of the Urban Planning & Territorial Planning Department of the State Committee for Urban Planning & Architecture, said tis at the event "Neuro-urbanism: how cities shape the brain, behavior and mental well-being", organized within the World Urban Planning Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
"We say that we are building cities for everyone. If the goal really is to create a city for everyone, then the master plans of the future cannot be developed by just one professional group or one structure. Urban planning is an extremely complex system, and urbanists, architects, psychologists, transportation specialists, public health experts, and researchers from other fields must work together to plan for the future. Because one of the key parts of urban planning is a zoning plan, and it should not be limited to just diagrams on paper. We can develop an ideal zoning plan for each city, but without taking into account the behavior of people and their daily habits, such a plan will not be effective. For example, if there are no convenient and safe walking routes in the city, people will not use these spaces. If there are no green corridors, it will be impossible to create greener and more comfortable cities for life," she said.
