June 2, Fineko/abc.az. As you know, railway line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) has been put into operation after reconstruction.

Speaking on the occasion, Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, said that this project has important and symbolic significance not only for Georgia, but also for the region as a whole.

ABC.AZ informs that the deputy minister added that the BTK line has been operating in test mode since 2017, and during this time the cargo transportation has been constantly growing.

"We are confident that by working together we will be able to operate this railway at full capacity. Large–scale restoration and reconstruction works have been carried out on the Marabda–Kartsakhi railway section," she stressed.

According to Ioseliani, in May, during the visit of the Georgian Prime Minister to Baku, a Protocol of the bilateral Coordination Council was signed, which laid the foundation for the complete commissioning of the project.

The deputy minister also said that the annual potential of cargo transportation through BTK is estimated at about 5 million tons, and it is planned to attract additional cargo flows in the future.
