During the visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to Baku for participation in the WUF13, Azerbaijan and Georgia once again confirmed their strategic partnership by signing a comprehensive package of agreements aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, energy and transport connectivity.
ABC.AZ reports with reference to the Ministry of Economy that the signing ceremony took place on May 18, 2026 in Baku with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
Both leaders stressed the importance of the signed documents in terms of expanding cooperation, emphasizing the important role of Azerbaijan and Georgia as a transport hub for many countries, as well as the need to further deepen cooperation in this area. The protocol of the Coordination Council also formalized the transfer of the relevant railway infrastructure to joint venture BTKI Dəmir Yolları LLC to control the management of the railway line, which is an important step in strengthening regional connectivity.
The parties additionally reached an agreement on the resumption of daily passenger railway service on the Baku-Tbilisi-Baku route from May 26, 2026.
