Discussions were conducted on April 8-9 in Baku at a regular meeting of the Joint Commission on International Road Transport between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached to exchange an additional 10,000 permit forms for bilateral and transit transportation and 2,500 permit forms for transportation to/from third countries for international freight transportation in 2026.
Taking into account the analysis of statistical indicators and the increase in cargo traffic, the initial annual quota for permit forms for 2027 was increased by 18% for bilateral and transit traffic to 65,000 forms, and for transportation to/from a third country by 50% to 7,500 forms.
The parties noted the dynamic development of bilateral cooperation in the field of road transport, as well as a significant increase in the volume of international cargo transportation over the recent period. In this regard, the need to take additional measures to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of international freight transport by road was emphasized.
It was noted that the Azerbaijani side is successfully implementing the e-permit system with Turkey, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, and work on this system with Kazakhstan is at the final stage.
