April 8 Fineko/abc.az. Kazakhstan ranks 10th in terms of global coal reserves. In 2025, around 115.9 million tons were extracted (a rise of 7% against 2024), ABC.AZ reports, referring to Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov of Kazakhstan.
85.9 million tons were used for domestic consumption, while exports amounted to 30 million tons. The main export destinations are Russia, Poland, Uzbekistan, Turkey, India, Malaysia. In 2026, production is planned at the level of 128.9 million tons. The volume of investments in the industry in 2025 totaled 305 billion tenge ($654 million), 553.5 billion tenge ($1.2 billion) is planned for 2026. By the end of the year, an auction is planned for granting subsurface use rights for 10 field sites.
