August 26, Fineko/abc.az. A Chinese citizen, identified as Jeong, accused of leading a hacker group that stole more than 38 billion won ($29 million) from wealthy victims, has been officially arrested in Korea following his extradition from Thailand. According to ABC.AZ, this was reported on August 26 by The Korea Times.

According to police and the Ministry of Justice, between August 2023 and January 2024, Jeong organized a hacker group abroad to steal personal data from the websites of South Korean telecommunications companies. Using this information, the group opened mobile phone accounts under the victims’ names and gained access to their bank and cryptocurrency accounts, withdrawing assets worth more than 38 billion won.
