8th Meeting of Joint Intergovernmental Commission Between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan Held

May 22, Fineko/abc.az. Today, the 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tajikistan was held in Baku.

According to the information received by ABC.AZ from the Cabinet of Ministers, the meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov from the Azerbaijani side and Deputy Prime Minister Usmonali Usmonzoda from the Tajik side.

Samir Sharifov noted that the Declaration on Strategic Partnership, signed during the state visit of the President of Tajikistan to Azerbaijan in 2024, has elevated the relations to a qualitatively new level. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to developing ties with Central Asian states, including Tajikistan. He stated that Azerbaijan's accession to the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia format as a full participant in November 2025 is of significant importance for strengthening interregional ties.

While praising the positive dynamics in 2025, which saw an 84% increase in trade turnover and a 50% growth in strategically important transit shipments between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, the sides emphasized the existence of vast potential for further expanding economic cooperation between the two nations.
