May 25, Fineko/abc.az. The German battery manufacturer Varta has been forced to shut down its factory in Nördlingen, Bavaria.
ABC.AZ reports that a total of 350 jobs will be affected at the Nördlingen site and the company's headquarters in neighboring Ellwangen. The primary reason behind the closure is the loss of a key customer.
Long considered a "hidden champion" and a technology leader in Germany, the company is suffering heavily from a weak economy and the broader downturn in the automotive and electronics industries. In recent years, Varta had already been struggling with high energy prices, rising raw material costs, and intensifying competition from Asia. Now, the situation has worsened with the loss of a major client, who reportedly switched to cheaper alternatives from abroad.
This case reflects the typical reality of many German industrial enterprises: once global leaders, they are now being systematically weakened by high business costs, ideological policies, and fierce global competition.
