May 21, Fineko/abc.az. Experts from the UN Food & Agriculture Organization warn of a possible global food crisis over the next 6-12 months due to shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
ABC.AZ informs that according to the organization, rising prices for energy and fertilizers, as well as a reduction in acreage, can lead to a drop in yields, increased inflation and a sharp rise in food prices. The FAO stresses the need for urgent measures, including the search for alternative trade routes, the lifting of export restrictions and the protection of humanitarian supplies.
It is noted that the capacity of alternative logistics corridors is limited, so producing countries are advised to avoid imposing export bans to prevent the crisis from worsening.
