Azerbaijan’s transit traffic grew 2.5-fold for past 6 years

May 15, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan has increased transit traffic 2.5-fold in 6 years.

ABC.AZ informs that Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Digital Development & Transport Javid Gurbanov made the relevant statement at the XVIII meeting of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission in Astana.

According to Gurbanov, in 2025, overall volume of transit traffic through Azerbaijan reached 14.3 million tons (2.5-fold higher than in 2019).

"Of this volume, around 4.7 million tons were transported along the Middle Corridor, which confirms its growing role in ensuring regional connectivity," he emphasized.

The deputy minister underlined that an important stage was completion of modernization of railway line Baku–Tbilisi–Kars, which increased the capacity of the route from 1 million up to 5 million tons a year.

Gurbanov added that in 2025, the container traffic through the Baku International Trade Sea Port grew by 40%, reaching a record of 107,000 TEU.

"As part of Stage 2 of port's development, it is planned to increase its capacity up to 25 million tons of cargo turnover and up to 500,000 TEU by 2030," he said.

The deputy minister noted that Azerbaijan is actively promoting the digitalization of the transport and logistics sector, including the introduction of electronic CMRS, permit systems and a digital one stop shop.
