Nigeria applies for associate membership in IEA

May 15, Fineko/abc.az. Nigeria has applied for the status of an associate member of the International Energy Agency (IEA), ABC.AZ reports, referring to IEA executive director Fatih Birol.

The application has been accepted and is awaiting further consideration.

The country is already a member of OPEC, OPEC+ and the GECF. At the same time, Nigeria is promoting strategy "Decade of Gas, considering gas as a transitional fuel.

Associate status in the IEA gives access to analytics, working groups and cooperation programs without the requirements for oil reserves, as with full membership. Such partners already include China, India and Brazil.
