April 22, Fineko/abc.az. Romania has acquired ICS Danube Logistics, the operator of the largest Moldovan port of Giurgiulesti, from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), ABC.AZ reports, referring to the website of the Romanian government.
The purchase was carried out by Romanian state-owned company Maritime Ports Administration of Constanta.
Romania, through CN Administrazia Porturilor Maritime SA Constanea, took over the management of the port of Giurgiulesti and committed to develop it in a new geopolitical context, including long-term investments in infrastructure.
The port, located on the Danube, 133 km from the Black Sea, is capable of receiving river and sea vessels and handles more than 70% of Moldova's foreign trade. It is expected that the port can also play a role in the reconstruction of Ukraine. The deal was negotiated with the participation of the EBRD, which previously managed the asset to attract investments. Financial details were not disclosed.
