April 20, Fineko/abc.az. In 2025, 4.426 million tons of waste were generated in Azerbaijan (1.4% more than in 2024).

ABC.AZ informs with reference to the State Statistics Committee that 73.5% of this volume was solid household waste, and 26.5% - various types of waste generated as a result of industrial activities of enterprises.

Last year, 3.25 million tons of waste, or 82.1%, were exported to landfills for disposal, 17.4% were used for energy production, and 0.5% were sold domestically. As a result of the incineration of household waste, 222.1 million kWh of electricity was produced.

Taking into account the accumulated residues of previous years, 16.8% of industrial waste was used at enterprises as raw materials, 23.4% was sold, 9.9% was taken to landfills for neutralization, and 49.9% remained at enterprises.

As a result of the production activities of the enterprises, 272,200 tons of hazardous waste were generated, their share made up 6.1%. Of them, 71.9% accounted for the extractive industry, 18.9% for the manufacturing industry and 9.2% for other industries.
