December 19, Fineko/abc.az. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is considering the matter of allocating a loan of $150.2 million to support a project to modernize the alarm systems of the Baku Metro and digitize operations.

ABC.AZ informs, referring to the ADB, that the project is aimed at digitalizing the metro's operating systems, in particular, train traffic management and passenger information, the bank says.

"ADB predicts that the project will improve both the operational and financial performance of the Baku Metro," the ADB added.

This initiative will also contribute to the creation of an urban mobility system focused on public transport, which will reduce traffic congestion caused by population growth and an increase in the number of private cars.

As of December 31, 2024, the ADB gave 71 loans, grants, guarantees and technical assistance for totally $4.4 billion to Azerbaijan. Currently, ADB's sovereign portfolio in Azerbaijan includes two loans and one sovereign guarantee for totally $613.68 million.
