11:22 - 8.09.2025

September 8, Fineko/abc.az. Protocols regulating the water-energy balance were signed between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan in Kyrgyzstan.

According to ABC.AZ, the agreements outline the parties’ obligations regarding water releases from the Toktogul Reservoir in exchange for electricity exports from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan.

The protocols also establish rules for transmitting electricity from Russia to Kyrgyzstan via Kazakhstan’s networks. Additionally, in a bilateral agreement with Uzbekistan, the supply of approximately 900 million kWh to Kazakhstan is scheduled from March to December 2026.

These measures aim to prevent shortages during the autumn-winter period, enhance the stability of the energy system, and ensure the accumulation of water resources for the upcoming season.
