November 18, Fineko/abc.az. Within COP29, discussions are being held at the National Pavilion of Azerbaijan on the restoration of the Absheron lakes and the creation of climate-resistant urban atmosphere. The main purpose here is to provide information on the ongoing work on the restoration of the Absheron lakes and on the planned new activities.
ABC.AZ reports that this opinion was expressed to journalists by Faig Mutallimov, the head of the Environmental Policy Department of the Ministry of Ecology & Natural Resources.
Mutallimov stressed the important role of lake protection in the sustainability of the city and in the life of the city:
"Currently, representatives of both the Ministry of Ecology and international organizations are taking part in the discussions. In 2014-2015, in the direction of the restoration of lakes on Absheron, the eastern part of Lake Boyuk Shor was restored and a boulevard was laid around it. Currently, project documentation has been prepared for the second stage of the Boyuk Shor Lake restoration project, that is, for the restoration of the western part of the lake. In addition, there are project documentation and technical and economic issues related to the restoration of Lake Zikh. Both projects are scheduled to begin implementation in the near future. Within this project, presentations will be held on cleaning about 300 hectares of Lake Boyuk Shor and laying the Boyuk Shor Boulevard on this territory. The restoration of the lakes was particularly emphasized in the Baku City Master Plan for the period until 2040, and in the future it is planned to turn the surroundings of these lakes into a green zone."
