November 16, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan has encountered the consequences of climate change in recent years: abnormal heat, water scarcity and floods, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Milli Majlis chairwoman Sahiba Gafarova.
"All countries of the world, including Azerbaijan, are affected by climate change. In recent decades, our country has faced excessive heat, water shortages, lowering of the Caspian Sea level and floods," Gafarova said on Saturday at a parliamentary meeting within COP29 in Baku.
She added that the holding of the UN climate conference in Azerbaijan underlines the country's determination and commitment to solving problems related to climate change.
Gafarova also noted that the parliament actively supports the government in expanding climate activities.
"As the climate crisis worsens, it becomes more difficult to eliminate its negative consequences. I believe that we must improve legislation in this area, encourage governments to act more actively and insist on fulfilling their obligations," she stressed.
