American company bought mobile operator of Uzbekistan for $351 million

June 4, Fineko/abc.az. The winner of the competition for privatization of 100% of the state share in Uzbek mobile operator MobiUz has been announced. It became American company McKim and Company.

ABC.AZ informs that according to the agreement reached between the parties, the transaction amount reahed $351 million.

Investment obligations and interest in the asset:

Major development investments: Under the terms of the agreement, the new owner undertakes to invest up to $500 million in further development of communications and modernization of infrastructure in Uzbekistan.

High competition: The process of privatisation of a state-owned asset has aroused considerable interest in the international market. More than 15 investors from the U.S., Japan, the Persian Gulf, Europe, and the South Caucasus region competed for the right to acquire the operator.

This deal is considered an important step towards attracting foreign direct investment in Uzbekistan's telecommunications sector and digitalizing the country.
