Iran wants to charge for underwater Internet cables

May 18, Fineko/abc.az. Iran has announced plans to introduce "usage fees" for underwater cables that carry Internet and financial traffic between Europe, Asia and the Persian Gulf countries.

ABC.AZ informs that CNN writes about this.

Representatives of the Iranian military say that technology companies may be required to pay licensing fees, and cable repairs will be allowed only to Iranian firms.

Experts warn that damage or limitation of the operation of such communication lines can seriously affect banking systems, cloud services and global logistics, as well as cause large-scale disruptions in the economy.
