May 15, Fineko/abc.az. Ukraine is one of the largest producers of walnuts, but the industry is developing poorly: the bulk of production accounted for households and industrial cultivation requires significant investments and is associated with high risks.
ABC.AZ reports that last year, because of unfavorable weather, the harvest was low, and speculators bought a significant part of the products, which slowed down exports.
The conditions for exporters have become even more complicated.
Against this background, competition from the U.S., Chile and China has intensified, and the EU has almost stopped buying Ukrainian nuts. Ukraine's exports have declined sharply: if in 2020-2024 the industry brought in an average of approx. $92 million a year ($461.4 million in total), then in 2025 revenues fell to $9.2 million.
