EU to introduce a new system for tourists

15:38 - 15.08.2025

August 15, Fineko/abc.az. Tourists traveling to Europe will face significant changes in border control procedures from October 12, 2025.

ABC.AZ reports, citing the foreign media, that the EU will launch its new Entry/Exit System (EES), replacing traditional passport stamps with digital biometric scanning for citizens of non-EU countries.

Foreigners will not be able to refuse to submit biometric data, otherwise they will be banned from entering the country.
The system will operate in all EU member states, with the exception of Cyprus and Ireland, as well as in four non-EU Schengen countries – Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

The other latest innovation will occur at the end of 2026. The system will require travelers from non-EU countries to pay a fee of 20 euros and obtain a prior permit before visiting the Schengen area.
