January 31, Fineko/abc.az. Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are considering the possibility of using biometric passports instead of international passports for travel between the two countries.
ABC.AZ informs that this matter was discussed between representatives of the Department of Entry, Exit & Registration of Citizens (UVViOG) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan and the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan with the participation of employees of the consular and legal departments of the Foreign Affairs Ministries of both countries.
The possibility of recognizing biometric ID cards as a document for crossing the borders of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan was discussed.
The parties noted that this step will simplify the movement of citizens, strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in the field of migration policy.
If the issue is approved, trips to both countries using biometric ID cards will be more convenient and will allow citizens of both countries to cross the border without having to issue a passport.
It is expected that the adoption of this decision will make it possible to intensify trade, economic, cultural and tourist ties between the two countries.
