May 1, Fineko/abc.az. Under conditions of complex global environment, customs policy requires more flexible and regulatory approaches.
ABC.AZ reports that MP Zahid Oruj made this statement at the next Milli Majlis plenary session during the 1st reading discussion of the draft amendments to the Customs Code.
He added that speech is, in particular, about the impact of the Iran-Israel conflict on multinational logistics companies and supply chains. The MP also noted that the war between Russia and Ukraine increases the need for alternative trade routes, which expands the role of customs authorities beyond just a control function.
Oruj underlined that new economic opportunities are being formed in the region, and Azerbaijan is at the stage of opening communication lines and lifting trade restrictions with Armenia. According to the MP, the future border crossing in Agband may become an important trade hub, and Azerbaijani products will eventually take their place in the Yerevan market. In these circumstances, customs policy, in his opinion, can become an "economic nervous system" that monitors the peace agreement process.
