April 27, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan exported 12,236 tons of methanol (methyl alcohol) for $2.447 million for Jan-Mar 2026, ABC.AZ reports, referring to the State Customs Committee.

Compared with Jan-Mar 2025, exports decreased by 86.5% in volume and 91.3% in value.

The share of methyl alcohol in the structure of Azerbaijan's non-oil exports was 0.28% and the share of methanol in its primary form in country's overall exports - 0.05%.

Over Jan-Mar 2026, Azerbaijan carried out foreign trade operations with foreign countries for $9.407 billion, including exports for $5.402 billion and imports for $4.5 billion. In annual terms, exports dropped by 15.4% and imports by 29.3%.

The methanol plant in Karadagh district of Baku was put into operation in 2013. Since 2016, the company has been operating under the management of SOCAR's subsidiary, SOCAR Methanol LLC, and has been owned by SOCAR since August 2017. The production capacity of the enterprise is 650,000-700,000 tons of methanol a year.
