April 2, Fineko/abc.az. Fully driverless Robotaxis have officially entered commercial service in Dubai, with the first cars operating in the Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim districts, with further geographical expansion.
ABC.AZ reports that the cost of trips is comparable to the usual aggregators:
— from Jumeirah Mosque to Madinat Jumeirah Market - 68.87 dirhams (~$18.7)
— from Kite Beach to Market - 30.07 dirhams (~$8.2)
The project is being implemented as part of the smart mobility program. At the first stage, 100 autonomous cars are available, and you can book a ride through Uber and Apollo Go.
Some of the robotaxis operate without a driver in the cabin, but its availability may depend on the operator and the stage of implementation.
Before launching, the service underwent extensive tests in the city. The technology is based on artificial intelligence, sensors and digital maps, which allows cars to safely react to the road situation in real time.
According to the Dubai Media Office, such systems have already traveled more than 150 million km and made over 10 million autonomous trips around the world.
