November 27, Fineko/abc.az. The tourism industry brings the most currency to the country after the energy sector.

ABC.AZ reports, quoting MP and economist Vugar Bayramov, that in this regard, it is important that visiting tourists update the origin of the country, in particular, strengthen cooperation in this area with countries located in Europe and Southeast Asia. This can increase the sustainability of tourism revenue.

He noted that changes are being recorded in the structure of the geographical origin of tourists coming to Azerbaijan: "For example, in the first 10 months of this year, the number of arrivals from the European Union increased by 7.9%, the number of arrivals from the Persian Gulf countries decreased by 3.5%, and from the CIS countries - by 8.2%. In general, during this period, the number of tourists visiting Azerbaijan decreased by 1.7% to 2.171 million people."

Bayramov noted that 24.4% of the arrivals were citizens of Russia, 17.4% - Turkey, 8% - Iran, 6.6% - India, 4.3% - Saudi Arabia, 4.2% - Georgia, 4% - Kazakhstan, 3.4% - Pakistan, 2.6% - China, 2.4% - Israel, 2.3% - Uzbekistan, 1.6% - UAE, 1.4% - Ukraine, 1.2% - Turkmenistan, 1.1% each - Belarus, Great Britain and Kuwait, 12.9% - other countries: "The decrease in the number of Arab tourists is associated with increased interest in alternative tourism markets, and tourism prices in Azerbaijan are still high. And the increase in the number of visitors from Europe is associated with an increase in demand for outbound tourism from the old continent, a rise in the number of business trips and growth of special interest in the region as a whole. At the same time, in recent years, there has been an increase in the interest of foreigners in health tourism in Azerbaijan."
