July 31, Fineko/abc.az. The share of Russian tourists coming to Azerbaijan for the purpose of recreation has decreased from 29% to 22% for the past mon ths of this year.
ABC.AZ informs that calls to boycott the boycott against Azerbaijan, which began in the Indian public, also led to a decine in the tourist flow.
The campaigns, accompanied by hashtag #BoycottAzerbaijan, distributed on social media, were formed amid Azerbaijan's close relations with Pakistan and Islamabad's support for the Kashmir issue.
In addition, popular Indian travel platforms MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip and Ixigo have suspended travel offers in Azerbaijan and canceled advertising campaigns. Times of India and Reuters cited public pressure and national interests as the reason for these decisions.
These countries, which provide a tourist flow to the country, have been replaced by a large number of tourists from a number of countries traveling for recreation and entertainment. The number of tourists from Kazakhstan increased by 31% up to 25,000 people, from Israel - by 59.3% up to 13,000 people, from Turkey - by 8% up to 48,000 people. Other Central Asian and Eastern European countries are on the growth list.
In total, tourists who arrived in the country incurred expenses in Azerbaijan in the amount of 1.539 billion manats, including 711.7 million manats of transportation costs (mostly by air). Nevertheless, tourist spending in the country decreased by 1.9% per year. Obviously, visitors from other countries were able to offset part of the cost of reducing the travel of tourists from India and Russia.
