October 10, Fineko/abc.az. In Azerbaijan, the use of plastic bags declined by 48% within 2 and a half months after the decision on their payment was made.
ABC.AZ reports that Rasim Sattarzade, adviser to the Minister of Ecology & Natural Resources, made the above-said statement at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources, Energy & Ecology.
"This year, a decree was issued on the regulation of the use of plastic bags for packaging by customers of their products and providing them for a fee. This decision should have come into force two years ago. But the law was not observed. Together with the State Service for Antimonopoly Regulation & Consumer Market Control under the Ministry of Economy, we have repeatedly held meetings with the heads of all supermarkets or members and heads of their public councils. Our agitation and propaganda work has become even more useful for us in implementing this law. It was a step towards reducing the impact of plastic waste on the environment," he added.
